Biography
by Jason Ankeny
The melodic indie-pop trio Sleepyhead formed in New York City in 1990. Comprised of vocalist/guitarist Chris O'Rourke, bassist Michael Galinsky and drummer/vocalist Rachael McNally, the group issued a series of singles on a variety of small labels before signing to Slumberland for 1993's Punk Rock City U.S.A. A move to Homestead followed prior to 1994's STARDUSTER!; in 1996, the trio returned with Communist Love Songs. Additionally, Galinsky co-wrote and directed the 1995 underground film Half-Cocked, which starred members of the groups Rodan, Crain and Ruby Falls. In 1999, the band released The Brighter Shore; that same year, Galinsky published Scraps, a collection of his photos.
