SLACK Bates Stamper cassette 1992

Discogs

Slack was essentially a side project for Jenny Toomey and Dan Littleton, who were often busy with other bands and only had a limited amount of Slack time. They recorded together but only played a couple of shows before Slack got put on the back burner. With no fan base at all, a full release was a bit ambitious. Instead, Slack's songs ended up as Tool 2, Bates Stamper. Slack eventually transformed into Liquorice.

MY NEW BOYFRIEND Super Saw 1992

In the fall of 1990 Jenny Toomey moved to Olympia, WA for about a month. While she was there she formed a band with an unlikely pair of people - Tobi Vail from Bikini Kill and Aaron Stauffer from Seaweed. Within a month they'd not only written songs, but had recorded them as well. The results ended up on Supersaw cassette.

LIQUORICE Listening Cap 1995

Artist Biography by

Listening Cap
Jenny Toomey (Tsunami, Grenadine) and Dan Littleton (Hated, Ida) had played together on and off for seven years before Ivo Watts-Russell (the head of 4AD Records) approached Toomey about doing a side project. She agreed and traveled to Livonia, MI, with Littleton to record at the basement studio of Warren Defever, guitarist and producer for His Name Is Alive. HNIA drummer Trey Many became the third member of Liquorice during the recording sessions. 4AD released Listening Cap in mid-1995.

Grenadine Biography by Heather Phares

This indie rock supergroup consists of Jenny Toomey from Tsunami, Mark Robinson from Unrest and Air Miami, and Rob Christiansen from the Eggs. Formed in 1991, Grenadine has a slew of 7"s to its credit, as well as two albums, Goya and Nopalitos, that show off the band's moody take on pop music. Toomey's compositions tend to be sullenly melodic, quiet epics that show off her rich, throaty voice, while Robinson's songs range from upbeat power pop to odd, 1920s-style ditties reminiscent of Rudy Vallee and other crooners. An unusual band even by indie standards, Grenadine allows its members to explore musical facets untouched by their other bands, making the group more than just a side project.
