Die Cheerleader Biography

by AllMusic

A British four-piece comprising Rita Blazyca (guitar), Sam Ireland (vocals), Debbie Quargnolo (bass) and lone male member Andy Semple (drums), Die Cheerleader play chunky, punk-edged, hard rock, featuring feisty, semi-surreal songs about relationships and life’s many downturns. In the process they have managed to straddle both the heavy metal and indie genres, attracting the attention of journalists from both camps and securing a publishing contract with poet and punk legend Henry Rollins. Tours with well-regarded punk and rock acts Terrorvision, Bad Religion and Iggy Pop helped to establish their reputation as a hard-working, talented live act. Filth By Association collected their well-received first three EPs (D.C.E.P. , Saturation and69 Hayloft Action) in updated form, along with two new tracks to complete the package. Rollins later sought to launch them in the USA by arranging a contract with London Records, who released the US-only Son Of Filth, an album split between old material remixed by Rollins and new songs produced in London with Steve Mack (ex-That Petrol Emotion).
