Bouquet Biography by Mike DaRonco

With their 1991 start as an acoustic two piece, Neil Shumsky (vocals/ 12 string guitar) and his friend Rachel (vocals/ guitar) went under the moniker of Bouquet as they brought on their sincere pop of minimal innocence. Mostly playing throughout the area of Leeds and Sheffield, England, Bouquet would eventually release a handful of EPs on various labels for the next two years before Rachel's 1993 departure. Ultimately resulting in a three year hiatus, Shumsky finally reformed Bouquet in 1996 with the addition of Shaun Alcock (drums) and Chris Mabbs (bass). Hailing the 1997 seven-inch of "Before I Die I'd Like To See A Flying Saucer" as their comeback release, Popstar Records followed through on the trio's first full-length Coral Kingdom in 1998. Soon after, Darren O'Conner joined that same year as a second guitarist.
