Discogs

Formed in February 1992 as Gravel Monsters but after joining ARC records in 1995 they changed their name to Ruth. They recorded their first and only album "Harrison" in the summer of 1995 in Chapel Studios, Lincolnshire. However, the release was continually held back due to a lack of money & a lack of success of their singles until March 1999. With ARC continuing to have financial problems they left and eventually signed to Mercury Records UK where they changed their name to The 45s

KITTENS FOR CHRISTIAN Building A Socialist Work Ethic 1996

Discogs

Wikipedia

Internet Archive Wayback Machine: Serjical Strike Records archived website:

No smoke and mirrors for Kittens for Christian, just Rock and Roll stripped to its center.  This band mixes pure instinct and panic with lamentful melodies, gripping you by the stomach and making you feel every note, harmony and plea for understanding.  Kittens for Christian bleeds for their craft and they want you to know it.

“People should expect something different when they come to see us.  Live, our music is more stripped down than on record, more immediate and raw.” comments Young.

Musically influenced by bands like Birthday Party, Gang of Four, Live Wire, The Pixies, Echo and The Bunnymen and Sonic Youth to name a few, Hiram and Neil also ingest the world around them.

REIN SANCTION Mariposa 1992

Discogs

Rein Sanction Biography

by Bradley Torreano

Few bands have been haunted by a musical comparison as much as Jacksonville, FL's Rein Sanction. Virtually no review or article related to them can go by without pointing out the similarities between themselves and Dinosaur Jr. They both make the same brand of sludge pop, but this trio managed to stay a band effort, unlike J. Mascis' monopolization of Dinosaur Jr. Formed in the late '80s, the band was made up of guitarist Mark Gentry, bassist Ian Chase, and drummer Brannon Gentry. They released Broc's Cabin, produced by Shimmy Disc honcho Kramer, on Sub Pop Records in 1991. Although Sub Pop became a real hotbed for music around this time, the band could not seem to capitalize on it. A second album, Mariposa, was produced by infamous grunge producer Jack Endino in 1992, but again they failed to make a dent in the music scene. On top of it all, critics were quite cruel in their Dinosaur Jr. comparisons, claiming the group was unoriginal and uninspired. The band took time off, only to resurface in 1996 with Blue Men on Souldier Records and a backing tour.

SPIREA X Fireblade Skies 1992

Discogs

Spirea X Biography

by Andy Kellman

Spirea X was a short-lived dream pop/noise pop act on the 4AD label, spearheaded by ex-Primal Scream member Jim Beattie. The other members of the group were Judith Boyle and Andrew Kerr. In 1991, the group released the Chlorine Dream and Speed Reaction singles, along with the full-length Fireblade Skies. Combining sweet vocal melodies with alternately noisy and blurry bursts of guitars and dance beats, the record was definitely up on the then-current sound of the U.K., but it failed to make much of an impression with consumers and cynical tastemakers. Spirea X vanished without a trace, but Beattie and Boyle -- along with former Spirea X manager Simon Dine -- would later form Adventures in Stereo.
