TEST
An indie rock band from Baltimore, Maryland, Sonna were founded in 1998 by guitarist/vocalist Chris Mackie, drummer/guitarist Jim Redd, and bassist Paul Petersan. Guitarist Jeremy DeVine, who established the Temporary Residence label in 1996, joined soon after the group's formation. Since much of Sonna's material was instrumental, they were often categorized as post-rock, but they always maintained a melodic sensibility as well as a penchant for experimentation and subtly complex arrangements.

After the demise of the popular late-'80s indie band the Razorcuts, singer/guitarist Gregory Webster did time in a couple of minor and short-lived side project bands, the Carousel and Saturn V, in his native Oxford, England, before forming Sportique in 1997. Although the band is otherwise entirely composed of people with other musical duties (keyboardist and singer Amelia Fletcher and bassist Rob Pursey have worked together in Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, Marine Research, and Tender Trap; and drummer Mark Flunder was in both the Television Personalities and the McTells, among others), Sportique has thrived, even managing more releases than the Razorcuts did during their four-year run.
Sportique released three singles in 1998, "The Kids Are Solid Gold," "If You Ever Change Your Mind," and "Tiny Clues," all on the cumbersomely-named U.K. indie Where It's At Is Where You Are. Their debut album, Black Is a Very Popular Colour, came out in April 1999 on the slightly larger indie Matinee Recordings, which also released an all-new single, "Love and Remains," in July of that year. A second album, Modern Museums, followed in the summer of 2002.

The Razorcuts were part of the legendary C-86 scene in the U.K. and went on to become one of the more influential indie pop groups of the 1980s. Founded in 1985 in Luton, England by Tim Vass and Gregory Webster, the Razorcuts released singles on the Subway Organization and Flying Nun labels before signing with Creation and releasing their first LP, Storyteller, in 1988. World Keeps Turning was released in 1989 but the band soon split. Vass and Webster went on to play separately in many bands including Saturn V, the Carousel, Forever People, and Sportique. In 2002 Matinee released R is for...Razorcuts, a collection of the duo's best recordings.

Didjits
were a punk rock band from Mattoon, Illinois, USA. The band was formed
in 1983 by brothers Rick (vocals & guitar) and Brad (drums) Sims,
along with Doug Evans (bass). The trio's music was characterized by its
high-energy guitar attack, which displayed a heavy influence of early
rock 'n roll like Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis, and Rick Sim's smart
aleck lyrics. Also of note was Rick Sims onstage persona, which
consisted of the front man wearing suits and sunglasses while hurling
insults at the audience. The group's debut LP, "Fizzjob" came out on
their own Bam Bam Records in 1986. In 1988, the group signed to Touch & Go
Records after the label heard an advance copy of their 2nd LP, "Hey
Judester". The label would remain the band's home (with the exception
of a few singles) for the rest of their career (they would also
subsequently reissue "Fizzjob"). Following 1991's "Full Nelson Reilly",
Brad Sims left the band to concentrate on work and family. Rey Washam
was drafted to fill his spot on the band's 1992 EP "Little Miss
Carriage". Todd Cole would take over the drum throne for the band's
next LP, "Que Sirhan Sirhan" but the group split the following year.

Guitarist Simon Austin formed the Melbourne, Australian folk-pop band Frente! in 1991, bringing in Angie Hart, Simon Austin (guitar), Tim O'Connor, and Mark Picton (replaced by Alastair Barden) to round out the lineup. Frente! entered the international spotlight in the summer of 1994 with their quirky acoustic version of New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle." On the back of that single, Marvin: The Album entered the charts, with the single "Labor of Love" becoming a minor hit. Shape followed in 1996.
