Artist Biography by Stephen Cramer
Calgary, Alberta's Hot Little Rocket were a melodic yet abrasive power pop/punk band. Guitarist Aaron Smelski and bassist Mark MacArthur, veterans in the Calgary scene, recruited guitarist Andrew Wedderburn in a classified ad. Drummer Joel Nye
already had a long history of drumming for various bands in
Saskatchewan, even before he joined the band. Their debut, Laika, came
out in March 2000. Recorded by Marc Schroder and mixed by Dave Alcock, the disc was well received in their homeland and abroad. The follow-up, Danish Documentary,
was unveiled in September 2001. Recorded by Tylor Scollon, the album
cemented their strong position in the Calgary music community. Chris
Vail added keyboards and extra vocals, while Barb Noad added extra
vocals as well.
