Artist Biography
Comprising Jörgen Cremonese (vocals, guitars),
Elisabeth Punzis (vocals), Lars Erik Grimelund (drums) and Jonas
Sonesson (bass), Swedish pop band Whipped Cream formed in 1989. A group
whose music has always striven to defy easy categorization, they made an
impressive debut in 1990 with the release of Whipped Cream And Other
Delights. The contents fluctuated from neo-ambient passages to 60s
psychedelia, with atmospheric guitar-playing that recalled UK indie
bands such as My Bloody Valentine. Perhaps the group’s greatest
strength, however, was the unique vocal blend achieved by Cremonese and
Punzis. Tune In The Century was even better-received, one domestic
magazine noting it as ‘a milestone in Swedish recording history’. It
included a cover version of Captain Beefheart’s ‘Observatory Crest’
which was also released as a single. The group’s 1992 tour attracted
large audiences and their international appeal was confirmed when BBC
Radio 1 disc jockey John Peel booked them for a session.
