Artist Biography by Stephen Cramer
Pumpernickel was a lo-fi, intimate band from New York state. Mark Ospuvat and Lee Petruzzelli led the group on vocals and guitar, as Pumpernickel released two simple yet memorable albums from 1995 to 1998 on two different independent labels. The ten-song, self-titled Pumpernickel was released on Radiant Faze Records in 1995. Recorded with engineer Nicolas Vernhes and producer David Mecionis, the album received modest college radio airplay in the Northeast and Midwest. The Albany Purchase
came out in 1998, this time on Spare Me Records. Ospuvat and
Petruzzelli were the focus again, as the songs on the album feature
three different drummers. While fans were eager for a follow-up to The Albany Purchase, the band was never heard from again.
