AllMusic Review by Nitsuh Abebe
Gambit
stands on the lower-fi end of an already low-fi group's work, and as
such it's a bit more impressive and interesting than releases like Baby, Test the Sky
-- the band's songwriting and melodic work is in good form
("Iditarod"), even when buried under fuzzy, overloaded rock
("Overdrive"). A few odd retro and lounge touches (in Stratotanker's
usual way) make things even more indirect than some of their other work
-- making for an album that bears long-term listening and decoding. The Miracle of Flight, however, still stands as the band's best.
