Buzzkill Biography
by Heather Phares
Originally known as Butthead, New Jersey's Buzzkill formed in 1990 but had to change their name two years later due to the popularity of MTV's Beavis & Butthead. Oddly enough, MTV also launched a hard-rock/grunge show called Buzzkill in the mid-'90s, but this had nothing to do with the punk trio, which consists of vocalist/guitarist Bruce Steinert Jr., bassist Dan Roorda and drummer Mike Polli. They released their first, self-titled album as Buzzkill in 1993 on Antidote Records, and collected their Butthead material into an album a year later. By 1995, the group toured with a wide array of alternative and underground groups, including Helmet, Urge Overkill, Barkmarket and Buzzoven. That year also marked their debut single for Alternative Tentacles, Meat Is Dinner. The full-length Up came out a year later, followed by House Of Bad Touch in 1999.
