THURMAN Lux 1995

Discogs

Mid-'90s power trio Britpop group that sprang from the ashes of the UK metal group 2 Die 4. Their music often dwelled in lively retro-'60s and -'70s pop stylings influenced by The Beatles, T. Rex, The Small Faces, David Bowie, The Kinks, and others. Thurman toured the UK with Echobelly in October 1994, had live shows with Supergrass in January, 1995, toured the UK with Carter The Unstoppable Sex Machine in February and March of that year (then went to Europe with them in April), played "The Beat" night at the London Astoria with Gene and EMF on national TV. They headlined some UK shows in summer 1995 while recording their debut album, played live on August 27th at the The Reading Festival. They eventually toured Japan, as well, to fanatical crowds. As per a recent 2020 interview with the group's singer/songwriter Nick Kenny, Thurman never quite got past the UK music press' penchant for cruel, fickle treatment of groups they didn't like in the 1994-'96 Britpop era. So it was very difficult for the band to make any further headway after the release of their only album and they subsequently disbanded under the Thurman name in 1996. They reformed shortly thereafter with ex-Nubiles member Dan Goddard as the Buffalo Springfield/Neil Young-tinged rock group The Four Storeys. Nick and his brother Simon Kenny are currently in the group The Long Insiders with Dan Goddard.
