PETER HIMMELMAN Flown This Acid World 1992

Discogs

American singer-songwriter and film and television composer.
Born November 23, 1959, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. His is a cousin of pianist Jeff Victor.
Formerly founded and played in the Minneapolis indie rock band Sussman Lawrence before pursuing an extensive solo career. Besides his many heartfelt songs, he is also known for composing songs about people in the audience at concerts and taking concerts outdoors when they have run their course at venues.
He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2002 for his song "Best Kind Of Answer" which was in the CBS series "Judging Amy", for which Himmelman also composed the score. He was the composer for the FOX television show Bones. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his children's album, "My Green Kite". USA Today has called Himmelman "one of rock's most wildly imaginative performers" for his often highly improvisational stage shows.
He has charted twice in the U.S., with "Waning Moon" in 197, which hit #41 on the rock charts; and "Woman with the Strength of 10,000 Men", which hit #18 on the alternative chart in 1991.
Himmelman is also the founder of Big Muse, a company which helps individuals and organizations unlock their creative potential.

FORESKIN 500 Starbent But Superfreaked 1996

 by request

Discogs

Starbent But Superfreaked Review by Andy Hinds

Starbent But Superfreaked offers a glimpse into the sleazy, vice-ridden underworld discotheque that is Foreskin 500. Appropriating hard rock, funk, psychedelia, hip-hop's approach to sampling, and a heavy slice of late '70s-style hedonism, Foreskin 500 brew a potent, sweaty brine on their sophomore release. Thanks to irresistible funk grooves, a punchy production, and the band's take-it-or-leave-it sex-and-drugs-fueled attitude, the album is a gloriously trashy success. But there is subtle complexity at work here -- while the band can obviously paint a graphic picture of underground party-culture excess ("Twister"), they have also perfected the doped-out melancholy of the morning after ("Pinhead Fantasy"). The ideal soundtrack to freak-filled after-hours parties everywhere.

CLOSEDOWN Nearfield 1994

Discogs

Nearfield Review by Ned Raggett

Though Silent was mostly known during its early '90s existence for ambient keyboard-based explorations, it did also get this trio's debut effort out, one of the first and best American responses to U.K. shoegazing bands. The opening keyboard atmospherics and reverberating bird calls may seem more like typical new age, but when the first heavily processed and delayed guitar wash suddenly wafts into view along with bells and chimes, it's enough to catch the ear of any Cocteau Twins or My Bloody Valentine fan. With further obvious inspiration from Slowdive and a name taken from a Cure song, Closedown admittedly wasn't one for total innovation. Still, those who love the serene psychedelia that such names can conjure up will be entirely in their element here. Bandleader Jerry Battle, who handles the guitar and vocals, knows exactly where he needs to aim at with both -- vast and echo-laden with the former, withdrawn and whispered with the latter. The rhythm section, with one James on drums and a Fernando on bass, also similarly does what needs doing -- steady, early Pink Floyd style pacing and fills, Simon Gallup-influenced low, moody tones and so forth. It's all fairly obvious, but it's such a wonderfully good obvious as well -- better this than yet another of the wannabe alternative groups cluttering up 1994, at least. Another member, Cesar Betancourt, gets credits for treatments -- whether this means taking Battle's work and further going nuts with it or simply adding further studio tweaks is unclear, but there's a healthy flow of dreamy texturing throughout, along with murkier offerings like "Kilobit." Appropriate samples from 2010: Odyssey Two ("My god, it's full of stars!") and song titles like "Sunangel Summer" and "Empyreal" fill out this unoriginal yet quite enjoyable album, well worth any dream pop fan's time.

FOUR STAR MARY Thrown To The Wolves 1999

Discogs

Four Star Mary is an alternative rock group formed in California in 1997. The band named themselves after the Four Star vs. Mary legal case, in which Mary attempted to sue Exxon Mobil, a large US oil company

Lead singer Tad Looney, guitarist Michael ‘Zu’ Zufelt, bassist Steve Carter, drummer Chris Sobchack and rhythm guitarist Derrick Tanner made up the fictitious band Dingoes Ate My Baby in which Oz plays guitar in Seasons Two, Three and Four of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They have also had tracks featured on the shows Party of Five, Road Rules, The Real World and Charmed.

According to an interview in The Watcher’s Guide, music editor John King heard their music at a party hosted by Steve Carter’s girlfriend and thought they would be good on the show. Joss decided that they had the right sound for the fictitious band he wanted. In Buffy, they played at several posting board and cast/crew parties.

Their 2001 single "Pain" is on the original soundtrack CD for the show.
