American singer-songwriter and film and television composer.
Born November 23, 1959, in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. His is a cousin of pianist Jeff Victor.
Formerly founded and played in the Minneapolis indie rock band Sussman Lawrence
before pursuing an extensive solo career. Besides his many heartfelt
songs, he is also known for composing songs about people in the audience
at concerts and taking concerts outdoors when they have run their
course at venues.
He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2002 for his song "Best Kind
Of Answer" which was in the CBS series "Judging Amy", for which
Himmelman also composed the score. He was the composer for the FOX
television show Bones. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his
children's album, "My Green Kite". USA Today has called Himmelman "one
of rock's most wildly imaginative performers" for his often highly
improvisational stage shows.
He has charted twice in the U.S., with "Waning Moon" in 197, which
hit #41 on the rock charts; and "Woman with the Strength of 10,000 Men",
which hit #18 on the alternative chart in 1991.
Himmelman is also the founder of Big Muse, a company which helps individuals and organizations unlock their creative potential.
