SOLEX Pick Up 1999

Mix a little Monsieur Blumenberg with Butter 08 and Beck, and you've created Solex. I do not know how I missed this band the first time. Amazing!

EVERGREEN self titled 1996

Featured the drummer from Slint, Louisville, Kentucky locals and not to be confused with a California band of the same name.

NEW BAD THINGS ¡Freewheel! 1995

New Bad Things Biography

by Ron DePasquale

What began as a one-off from like-minded coffee shop dwellers in Portland, OR, swelled into one of the Rose City's longest-lasting contributions to the indie rock world. David French, Luke Hollywood, Christine Denkwelter, Matthew Hattie Hein, and Mattiey Gaunt formed in 1992 to do a one-time opening gig for Sebadoh. They soon recorded a full-length record, Freewheel!, for local indie label Candy Ass Records and became a unique collective of songwriters gelling their disparate tastes into one lo-fi sometimes noisy post-punk sound. Society followed on Lissy's U.K. in 1994, and the band began to drift to a more slop pop sound. NBD released Ennui Go in 1997 and bade farewell to singer Hein, who left to pursue a solo career. An alternative-takes record, C-sides, was released in 1999. French later departed to play in Wallpaper.

FROGPOND Count to Ten 1996

1997 brought Frogpond to Pensacola where they packed Sluggo's so tightly we were all smashed against each other. They rocked the place so much everyone was jumping up and down. The next day my neck and legs were so sore from dancing in my combat boots but it was all worth it.

WEIRD PAUL Lo Fidelity High Anxiety 1991

David A. was kind enough to share this with us. Here's what he wrote about Weird Paul: "Released in 1991 on Long Island’s now defunct Homestead Records, the album’s standout track is the prolixly titled “Scott Baio Was Seen at the (Legendary) Pink Dot Convenience Store Buying 12 Cans of Tuna and a Carton of Cigarettes”. I think your fans will enjoy it."

I do for sure. Weird Paul makes me smile.

DEVILHEAD Your Ice Cream's Dirty 1994

by request
thanks to Lokki

From Trouser Press - an unflattering review

Since the music on Your Ice Cream’s Dirty — a witless meander through the backyards of various Seattlooza sounds (’70s Britrock, puerile comedy, a slack version of Rollins Band kick-out-the-thrashjams, stoner country, stoner jazz) — doesn’t offer an adequate explanation for this underachiever’s major-label-affiliated existence, a little background is in order. In the mid-’80s, Devilhead guitarist Kevin Wood was in the lame Malfunkshun with his younger brother Andrew, who went on to front Mother Love Bone and then OD in 1990, leaving two bandmates — one of whom co-owns Loosegroove with another Malfunkshun alumnus — to form Pearl Jam. Devilhead, which has no fixed lineup but calls Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound home, includes a third Wood, singer/guitarist Brian. Collectors of Seattle ephemera may be compelled, but nothing about Your Ice Cream’s Dirty otherwise merits a second glance.[Ira Robbins]
