The Mondo Crescendo Biography
by Jason Ankeny
Indie-pop combo the Mondo Crescendo was formed in Washington D.C. in 1995 by singer/guitarist Jennifer Taylor; originally dubbed Juniper, the group debuted the next year on A Turntable Friend with the single "You Don't Hide So Well," followed by seven-inches for Orange Peel ("Making Gerard Smile") and Fantastic ("Think and Die Thinking"). Upon relocating to San Francisco in 1997, Taylor rechristened the band Mondo Crescendo, and -- backed by ex-Ropers bassist Mike Hammel and drummer Douglas Armour -- issued the Blackbean & Placenta Tape Club EP Get Faded in 1998. The full-length Young, Naked & Very with It appeared a year later.
