Artist Biography
by Mike DaRoncoThe math rock trio Drill for Absentee formed in the suburbs of Philadelphia in late 1995 with the intention of combining abrasive guitars, complex song structures, and spoken word vocals. Consisting of Michael Nace (guitar/vocals), Kevin Kelly (bass/vocals), and Bryan Sargent (drums), the trio netted a deal with Mind Walk Records, which released Drill for Absentee's self-titled debut EP in 1998. The Circle Music EP followed in 1999, featuring Vin Novara on percussion. The group quietly disbanded that same year, with Sargent relocating to New York City and Nace launching a folk act entitled the Nace Family.
